Taking Away All Your Wrath - Psalms 85:3

In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist said, “LORD, you have been favorable unto your land: you have brought back the captivity of Jacob. You have forgiven the iniquity of your people, you have covered all their sin. Selah”, and in chapter eighty five and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “you have taken away all your wrath”, where we read,

You have taken away all your wrath: you have turned yourself from the fierceness of your anger.

The verse begins, You have taken away all your wrath: The Psalmist began with the words, “you have taken away” or “you, Jehovah God, have gathered in, collected, received and removed” “all your wrath” which means “each, every and the whole of your, Jehovah God's, outpouring, overflow, excess and arrogance of rage and fury”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God removed “all” His anger, rage and fury.

The verse goes on to say,you have turned yourself from the fierceness of your anger. The Psalmist continued with words, “you have turned yourself” or “you, Jehovah God, relinquished and lead away and apart your own self” “from the fierceness” which means “separate and apart from the burning sore displeasure, fury and wrath” “of your anger” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, ire and wrath which causes the nose or nostrils in the face to wrinkle”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God relinquished Himself from His burning displeasure, fury and wrath.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared about Jehovah God removing every part of His rage, and He relinquished His wrath which could have been poured out upon the people of Israel. God is a merciful and gracious God, and He is slow to anger. (See Exodus 34:6-7; Psalms 103:8, 145:8) He desires to save people from their sins rather than pour out His anger upon them. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remove and relinquish any fury and wrath that was to be poured out upon us. (See 1 Thessalonians 5:9)

Next time the Psalmist says, “Turn us, O God of our salvation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
