In Psalms chapter eighty four the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Blessed is the man whose strength is in you; in whose heart are the ways of them. Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also fills the pools. They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appears before God”, and in chapter eighty four and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer”, where we read,
O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.
The verse begins, “O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer:” The Psalmist began with the words, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “God of hosts” which means “Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God over the army of angels, messengers and envoys”, “hear my prayer” or “understand, perceive, hearken and listen to my, the Psalmist's, intercession, supplication and by implication a hymn”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God who reigns over spiritual messengers and envoys to give audience to his intercessions and supplications.
The verse continues, “give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.” The Psalmist added the words, “give ear” or “hearken, listen to and perceive”, “O God of Jacob” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God belonging to Jacob whose name means “heel holder or supplanter”. “Selah” or “lift up, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. The Psalmist beckoned the Divine judge over the people of Jacob or Israel to listen to him, and anyone reading his words was to pause and meditate upon this idea.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to pay attention and listen to his intercession. He understood Jehovah God was the God of “Jacob”, and because of that relationship, He knew God would hear what he said. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who came into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “hear” us when we call out to Him in intercession.
Next time the Psalmist says, “Behold, O God our shield”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
