In Psalms chapter eighty one Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto you: O Israel, if you will hearken unto me”, and in chapter eighty one and verse nine of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “there shall no strange god be in you”, where we read,
There shall no strange god be in you; neither shall you worship any strange god.
The verse begins, “There shall no strange god be in you;” Asaph began with the words, “there shall no strange god” or “there is not any loathsome, alienated and estranged deity to” “be in you” which means “to exist among you, the people of Israel”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God told the people of Israel to not have any foreign and loathsome deity among them. (See Exodus 20:3-5)
The verse goes on to say, “neither shall you worship any strange god.” Asaph continued with the words, “neither shall you worship” or “no and not in any way are you, the people of Israel, to bow down, depress, prostrate or give homage to ” “any strange god” which means “any foreign, alien, pagan or heathen deities”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God also exhorted the people of Israel not to bow down or give homage to any foreign or heathen deities.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God referred to the first of His commandments which were given to Moses while they were in the wilderness. The people of Israel were to have no other gods before Jehovah God, and they were not to bow down or give homage to any foreign God. God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and He sent Him into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He forgives our sins, grants us everlasting life and will help us keep Him first in our lives.
Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God says, “I am the LORD your God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
