In Psalms chapter eighty one Asaph shared how Jehovah God said of the people of Israel, “I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots. You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder: I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Selah”, and in chapter eighty one and verse eight of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “hear, O my people, and I will testify unto you”, where we read,
Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto you: O Israel, if you will hearken unto me;
The verse begins, “Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto you:” Asaph began with the words, “Hear, O my people” or “hearken, listen and obey, O my, Jehovah God's, human beings”, “and I will testify unto you” which means “and I, Jehovah God, shall bear witness, restore, relieve and affirm solemnly you, the people of Israel”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God appealed to the people of Israel to listen to Him, and He would bear witness and restore them.
The verse continues, “O Israel, if you will hearken unto me;” Asaph added the words, “O Israel” or “O Israel whose name means God prevails and was the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”, “if you will hearken” which means “whether and in case you, the people of Israel, shall listen, pay attention and give interest” “unto me” or “to me, Jehovah God”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God also appealed to “Israel” to pay attention to and obey Him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph's words how Jehovah God desired that His “people” “Israel” listen to and obey what He had to say. God was ready to restore them, and if they would only pay attention to Him, He was willing to relate to them. God desires the same for us today as He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield ourselves to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continually speak to our hearts and minds by His Holy Spirit. Let us open our hearts, minds and ears to hear the voice of Jehovah God.
Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God says, “there shall no strange god be in you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
