In Psalms chapter eighty four the Psalmist proclaimed, “How amiable are your tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh cries out for the living God”, and in chapter eighty four and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the sparrow has found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself”, where we read,
Yes, the sparrow has found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young, even your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
The verse begins, “Yes, the sparrow has found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself,” The Psalmist began with the words, “Yes, the sparrow has found” or “even so and indeed, the small little bird or fowl known as a sparrow has discovered, secured, acquired and detected” “an house” which means “a dwelling place, habitation and abode”, “and the swallow” or “and the small bird known as a swallow” “a nest for herself” which means “a fixed chamber or dwelling on behalf of her own self”. The Psalmist observed the “sparrow and the swallow” birds making a dwelling place for themselves within the tabernacle of Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “where she may lay her young, even your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “where she may lay her young” or “in the place and location that she, the swallow, might set, station, fix and constitute her, the swallow's, youthful brood”, “even your altars” which means “indeed your, Jehovah God's, place of slaughter and worship”, “O LORD of hosts” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who reigns over organized armies of angels, messengers and envoys”, “my King” which means “my, the Psalmist's, royal ruler”, “and my God” or “and my, the Psalmist's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. The Psalmist shared how the “swallow” could set her youthful brood within the courts of Jehovah God and rest them upon the sacred worship places located there.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through the Psalmist how the birds make their abode within the courts and altars of Jehovah God. The idea is that Jehovah God's place of worship is so peaceful and restful that even the birds desire to live there. God makes Himself available to people through His Son Jesus whom He sent to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and invite us to join Him in His “courts” and “altars” in the peaceful manner like unto the fowls of the air.
Next time the Psalmist says, “Blessed are they that dwell in your house”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
