In the book of Joshua, we learned how “the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day”, and in chapter ten and verse fourteen of the book of Joshua, we learn how, “there was no day like that before it or after it” where we read,
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
The verse reads, “And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man:” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and there was no day like that” which means “and there existed not any sunrise to sunset similar and in likeness to that sunrise to sunset” “before it or after it ” or “in advance of it, that day, or following it, that day”, “that the LORD” which means “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “hearkened unto the voice of a man” or “listened, gave attention to and obeyed the sound and noise of uttered words belonging to a male human being”. Joshua or the writer shared how there has never been a “day” prior to or following that “day” when Jehovah God listened to and obeyed the “voice” of a person.
The verse continues, “for the LORD fought for Israel.” Joshua or the writer added the words, “for the LORD” which means “because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “fought for Israel” or “battled and made war on behalf of Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. Joshua or the writer said that “day” was different than any other because Jehovah God battled and warred on behalf of the people of “Israel”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how there never has been nor will be another “day” like the “day” when God listened to the “voice” of a person like He did Joshua as He battled the foes of Israel. God works according to His purposes and will, and because He loves the people of Israel, He listened to “Joshua”, caused the sun and moon to stand still and warred against the enemies of Israel. When we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and help us to manage our lives in keeping with His desire to have a relationship with us that is fully dependent upon Him. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)
Next time we learn how, “Joshua returned, and all Israel with him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
