According
to the writer of Hebrews, “worshipers once purged should
have had no more conscience of sins”
if the “earthly sacrifices”
would have been perfect, but because they were not, in chapter
ten and verse three of Hebrews the writer shares
how there will be “a remembrance made of sins”
where we read:
But in
those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made
of sins every year.
The
verse begins, “But in those
sacrifices...”.
The writer
began with the word, “But”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “in
those sacrifices” which
refers to “the offerings presented by the earthly priests”. In
answer to the “perfection” that is obtained by Jesus'
“sacrificial offering”,
the author of Hebrews referred to the “sacrifices”
offered by “earthly priests”.
The verse goes on to
say, “...there
is a remembrance again made
of sins every year.”. The
writer continued with the words, “there
is a remembrance again” which
is all one Greek word “anamnēsis”
and means “a recollection or memory” “made
of sins”
or “brought to mind of errors, missing of the marks and mistakes”
“every year”
which refers to “down from, throughout and toward each fixed
definite period of time called a year”. Every time the “earthly
priests” would offer sacrifices for sins, the people would be
reminded of their own.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see how the “sacrifices”
offered by the earthly priests brought to mind the “sins”
of the people every year. Where they were supposed to “remove”
and “cleanse” people from their “sins”, the
offerings actually reminded them of “sins”. Jesus offered
Himself as a “sacrifice” for “sins” one time in the
heavenly temple, and His “offering” removed and cleansed
people from their “sins” completely. Let all who read
these words know, understand and believe in Jesus Christ who is able
not only to “cleanse” us from our sins, but also to “remove”
them from our memories.
Next
time the writer shares how
“it is
not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away
sins”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
