Moses
spoke “every precept to all the people according to the
law”, and when he did, “he
took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool,
and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people”,
and in chapter nine and verse twenty of Hebrews the writer
shares how Moses declared “this
is the blood of the testament” where we read:
Saying,
This is the
blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
The
verse begins, “Saying, This is
the blood of the testament...”. The
writer began with the word, “Saying”
which means
“affirming, maintaining, exhorting, advising, commanding and
directing” “this is the blood”
or “within which is the bloodshed” “of
the testament”
which refers to “of the disposition, arrangement, compact or
covenant”. When Moses dedicated the “law
of God”
and “the people”
to whom he read it, he shared concerning “the bloodshed” over the
“covenant”.
The
verse continues, “...which God has enjoined unto you.”.
The writer added the words,
“Which God” or
“that the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the
Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “has
enjoined” which means “has
ordered and commanded to be done” “unto you”
which refers to “the hearers of the law”. Moses told the people
“the covenant” was
“commanded” by God and given to them.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we see the significance of the
dedication of the “covenant” by the “sprinkling of
blood”. This gave the people exactly what God desired for them
to have – a relationship with Him. The people were sinners, and the
“covenant” was a way in which their sins would be covered,
and they could have a kinship with God. Jesus Christ did likewise
when He entered into the heavenly temple and “sprinkled”
His own sacrificial blood over the “new covenant” issued
by God. Now we have access to God through belief in Jesus Christ, and
all who surrender their lives to Him may have fellowship with God as
His children.
Next
time the writer asks “he
sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the
ministry”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
