The
writer of Hebrews shared how “by faith, Abraham, when he
was tried, offered up” his son
“Isaac”, and
because “he had received the promises”
of God, he “offered up his only begotten son”.
In chapter eleven and verse eighteen of Hebrews the writer
shares how “in Isaac
shall your seed by called”where we read:
Of whom it
was said, That in Isaac shall your seed be called:
The
verse begins, “Of whom it was said,...”. The
writer began with the words, “of whom”
which means “in regard to Abraham” “it was said” or
“it was uttered, spoken and declared”. God promised Abraham
though His words.
The
verse goes on to say, “That in Isaac shall your seed be
called:”. The writer continued
with the words, “That in Isaac” or
“because in Abraham's son Isaac” that means “he laughs”
“shall your seed”
which means “through your virility, offspring and progeny” “be
called” or “saluted loudly
or aloud and given a name”. God promised Abraham that his son
“Isaac” would
continue his line of descendants and would thereby be given the name
especially chosen by God
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we understand how God
promised Abraham that his son Isaac would carry on his lineage. This
would eventually lead to the Messiah Jesus who would “save people
from their sins”, and although Abraham's thoughts were primarily
upon his son, this promise by God was certain and sure. “Isaac”
was to be the forefather of Jesus, the Savior of man, and God loved
people so much, He would never violate His word.
Next
time the writer shares about “Isaac”
and how “God was able to
raise him up”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
