Looking for of Judgment and Fiery Indignation Hebrews 10:27

The writer of Hebrews warned concerning sinning “willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-seven of Hebrews the writer shares about “looking for of judgment and fiery indignation” where we read:

But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation,
which shall devour the adversaries.

The verse begins, “But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation,...”. The writer began with the words, “But” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “a certain fearful” or “a somewhat terrible, formidable and timid” “looking for” which means “reception, succession, interpretation, expectation and waiting” “of judgment” or “separation, sundering, separation, right and justice” “and fiery indignation” which means “fire-like zeal, envying, fervent mind, jealousy and emulation”. Rather than a “sacrifice for sins”, the one who “sins willfully” and having the “knowledge of the truth” should “expect” “judgment and fire-like zeal, jealousy and emulation”.

The verse continues, “...which shall devour the adversaries.”. The writer added the words, “which shall devour” or “will be about, intend, have in mind and think to eat or consume” “the adversaries” which means “those opposed and contrary”. The result of the “judgment and fiery indignation” would be the “consumption” of those who are in “opposition and contrary” to God.

When we think through these words in Hebrews, we see the focus that a person who “willfully sins” against God after having the “knowledge of the truth”. There is a “judgment and fiery jealousy and emulation” waiting for those who trespass in this manner, and the ultimate end shall be the “consumption” of the perpetrators. Let there be woe and awe toward such an awesome warning from the Hebrew writer, and may we humbly bow our heads and yield to Jesus Christ as our Savior from such horrific “separation”.

Next time the writer shares about “he that despised Moses' law”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
