When
Moses spoke “every precept to all the people according to
the law”, “he took
the blood” of animals “with
water, scarlet wool and hyssop”
and “sprinkled with blood” “the book, and all the
people”. Moses also said,
“this is the blood of the testament which God has
enjoined unto you”, and in
chapter nine and verse twenty-one of Hebrews the writer shared how
each of the “vessels” and the tabernacle Moses also
“sprinkled with blood” where we read:
Moreover
he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of
the ministry.
The
verse begins, “Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the
tabernacle,...”. The writer
began with the word, “Moreover”
which means “and likewise, equally and in the same way” “he
sprinkled” or “Moses
cleansed and purified” “with blood”
which refers to “bloodshed” “both the tabernacle”
which means “also, even and indeed the tent that is the well known
movable temple of God after the pattern of which the temple at
Jerusalem was built”. Moses also “sprinkled”
the “tabernacle”
within the wilderness with “the blood”
of animals.
The
verse goes on to say, “...and all the vessels of the
ministry.”. The writer
continued with the words, “and all” or
“and each, every, the whole and everyone of” “the
vessels” which means “the
household utensils, domestic gear and tackle” “of the
ministry” or “of the service
or ministry of the priests relative to the prayers and sacrifices
offered to God ”. Moses also “sprinkled”
the “utensils”
used in the “sacrifices and offerings” with the “blood”
of animals as well.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see the significance of
“the blood” in the
dedication of not only the “tabernacle”
of God, but also each of the instruments used by the priests when
they offered “gifts and sacrifices”. There was only one way for
the “sins” of people to be covered, and that was by the “shedding
of blood”. Jesus Christ
“shed” His “blood”
on the cross at Calvary, and when He did, He offered it as the
perfect gift and sacrifice for man's sin. Sin was now able to be
removed from people by the “belief” and “trust” in Jesus
Christ. This allows us to have “everlasting life” with
God. May all who read these words understand and believe “there is
power in the blood of Jesus”.
Next
time the writer declares how “almost
all things are by the law purged with blood”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
