A Fearful Thing Hebrews 10:31

While sharing concerning those who “sin” “willfully” after having “knowledge of the truth”, the writer in Hebrews referred to the Lord saying, “vengeance is mine”, and He will repay those who violate His “Spirit of grace”. In chapter ten and verse thirty-one of Hebrews the writer shares how falling into the “hands of a living God” is a “fearful thing” where we read:

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The verse begins, “It is a fearful thing...”. The writer began with the words, “It is a fearful thing” or “it is a terrible, formidable, frightful and affected with fear action, happening, situation or occurance”. The writer referred to the magnitude of the “fear” that comes in judgment to what he is about to write.

The verse goes on to say, “...to fall into the hands of the living God”. The writer continued with the words, “to fall into” or “be entrapped by, overwhelmed with and within the power of” “the hands” which means “the might, activity and power” “of the living” which refer to “the alive, quick, lively, active, full of vigor, strong, efficient, powerful and efficacious” “God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. The “fearful thing” of which the writer of Hebrews declared was to “be overwhelmed with the power of the strong, efficient and powerful God”.

When we consider these words in Hebrews, we see the power and strength that belongs to Almighty God, and when we think of ourselves “falling into His power”, we must bow in humility. God knows all, sees all and is everywhere present, and when the writer of Hebrews declared that He would have “vengeance” upon people who “willfully sin after having knowledge of the truth”, we should all take heed. Jesus came to save us from the “dread and fear” that may be confronted with Almighty God, and those who are in “awe and fearful wonder” of Him should humble themselves, submit, repent and turn from their willful sins.

Next time the writer tells his readers to “call to remembrance the former days”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
