The
writer of Hebrews shared how the Messiah Jesus declared, “in
the volume of the book it is written of me”,
and in chapter ten and verse eight of Hebrews the writer
shares how God did not desire
“sacrifices and offerings” “neither had pleasure
therein” where we read:
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt
offerings and offering
for sin you would not, neither had pleasure therein;
which are offered by the law;
The
verse begins, “Above
when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering
for sin you would not,...”. The
writer began with the word, “Above”
which means
“in an upper or higher place” “when
he said” or
“at the time Christ uttered, affirmed, maintained and declared”,
“Sacrifice”
which means “victims for offering” “and
offering”
or “the act of giving, presenting and sacrificing” “and
burnt offerings”
which refers to “whole burnt victims” “and
offering for” or
“concerning, on account of, because of, around and near to” “sin”
which means “error, missing the mark and mistakes” “you
would not”
or “God did not have in mind, intend, resolve, determine, purpose,
desire or wish”. God did not desire the “sacrifices and offerings
and burnt offering and offerings for sin” which were presented by
the priests.
The
verse continues, “...neither had
pleasure therein;
which are offered by the law;”. The
writer added the word, “neither” or
“not or not even” “had pleasure”
which means “possessed, owned and hold good to one, choice,
determination and decision” “therein”
or “with the sacrifices and offerings”;
“which are offered”
which means “that are presented, given and sacrificed” “by
the law”
or “through the rule producing a state approved of God”. God
possessed no “pleasure”
with the “offerings”
even though they were promoted within the “law
of God”.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see the insufficiency of
the “sacrifices and offerings” which were presented by the
“earthly priests”. This is because they failed to “cleanse and
purge” people from their “sins”, and this is the reason
Jesus came. His perfect and sinless life allowed Him to present
Himself as the only “cleansing and purging” “sacrifice”
which was “pleasing to God”. Those who realize this will
find that simply “trusting in, relying upon and clinging to” Him
will provide not only their salvation from “sins” but also
provide for them “eternal and everlasting life”.
Next
time the writer asks “how
much more shall the blood of Christ”
“purge
your conscience from dead works”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
