The
writer of Hebrews reminded his readers, “a little while,
and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry”
while speaking of Jesus, and in chapter ten and verse
thirty-eight of Hebrews the writer shares
how the “just shall live by faith” where we read:
Now the
just shall live by faith: but if any man
draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
The
verse begins, “Now the just shall live by faith:”. The
writer began with the words, “Now the just”
which means “moreover and the righteous ones who observe divine
laws” “shall live”
or “breath, be among the living and enjoy real, active, blessed and
true life which is endless in the kingdom of God” “by
faith” which means “out of,
from and away from the conviction that God exists and is the creator
and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal
salvation through Christ”. The writer declared those who are
“righteous” will live with “the conviction that God exists and
is the creator and ruler of all things”.
The
verse goes on to say, “but if any
man draw back, my soul shall have no
pleasure in him.”. The
writer continued with the word, “but”
which means
what is about to be written takes precedence over what was previously
stated” “if any man draw back”
or “shuns, withdraws from, lowers, covers or shrinks”,
“my soul” which
refers to “the writer's the vital force which animates the body and
shows itself in breathing” “shall
have no pleasure”
or “will not be pleased with, take pleasure in or be favorably
inclined toward” “in him” which
means “by or with the person who “draws
back”. The
writer warned those who “shun and withdraw from” the “faith”
shall not be pleasing to him.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we understand the importance
of “living by faith” and not “doubting or leaving” our
trust in the Lord Jesus. God desires for us to have “faith” in
Him, and the direct relationship between being “righteous” and
living by “faith” is shown by the writer. Not only does God want
us to have fellowship with Him, but He also desires for us to
continue in our trust in Him no matter what we encounter in life.
Lest we be as those who “draw back” and give no “pleasure”
to the Lord, let us continue in the “faith” in Jesus
Christ as our “Savior and Lord”.
Next
time the writer shares how he and his readers “are
not of them who draw back unto perdition”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
