The
writer of Hebrews told his readers not to “cast away”
their “confidence”
because it “has great recompense of reward”,
and in chapter ten and verse thirty-six of Hebrews, the writer
tells his readers “you
have need of patience” where we read:
For you
have need of patience, that, after you have done the will of God,
you might
receive the promise.
The
verse begins, “For you have need of
patience, that, after you have done the will of God,...”.
The writer
began with the words, “For”
which means “even as, seeing then, no doubt, verily and therefore”
“you have need”
or “the readers have necessity, duty and business”
“of patience”
which refers to “endurance, continuance and patient waiting”,
“that” or
“in order and so that”, “after
you have done”
which means “after the readers make ready, prepare, produce,
construct, form and fashion” “the
will” or
“the pleasure and desire” “of
God” which
refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. The readers of
Hebrews “needed endurance and patient waiting” as they “prepared
and accomplished” God's will.
The
verse goes on to say, “...you might receive the
promise.”. The writer
continued with the words, “you might receive” or
“that the readers care, provide, bear, bring and carry away” “the
promise” which means “the
announcement, pledge, message or assent of good or blessing”. The
reason the readers of Hebrews needed “patience” was because after
they did God's will, they would “carry away” the “pledge and
message of good and blessing” from Him.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we understand the writer's
exhortation to his readers to be “patient” concerning the
future “recompense of reward” promised to those who keep
faith in Jesus and serve Him. God desires to pour out His blessings
upon people who “rely upon, cling to and trust in” Him, and while
they “wait patiently” for His “promise” to be
fulfilled, they are to be busy about His will. May we be as those who
not only obey the “will of God”, but also have long
“patience” while waiting for His promise as we serve Him.
Next
time the writer shares how “a
little while, and he that shall come will come”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
