According
to the writer of Hebrews, “Christ”
became a “high priest of good things to come”
“by a greater and more perfect tabernacle”
which was not “made with hands”.
In chapter nine and verse twelve of Hebrews the writer shares
how Jesus “obtained
eternal redemption for us” where we read:
Neither
by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in
once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for
us.
The
verse begins, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves,
but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place,...”.
The writer began with the words,
“Neither by blood”
which means “nor or not even through the bloodshed by slaying”
“of goats” or
“male goats” “and calves”
which refers to “tender and young bulls or heifers”, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “by
his own blood” or “through
Jesus' own bloodshed” “he entered in”
which means “came into and arose” “once”
or “one time” “in the holy place”
which refers to “into the reverend, worthy of veneration, pure,
sinless, upright and prepared for God with solemn rite place”. The
“blood of goats and young bulls”
was not sufficient to cleanse us from our sin, so Jesus offered His
“own blood” as a
sacrifice when He entered the “Holy of Holies”.
The
verse continues, “...having obtained
eternal redemption for us.”.
The writer
added the words, “having obtained”
or “come,
hit and meet upon after searching to find a thing” “eternal”
which means “without beginning and end, that which always has been
and always will be, never to cease and everlasting”
“redemption”
or “a ransoming and deliverance from the penalty of sin” “for
us” which
refers to “the writer and his readers”. When Jesus “entered”
into the heavenly “Holy of Holies”
and offered “his own blood”,
He gained everlasting “redemption”
or “deliverance” from sin for us.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see the “superiority”
of Jesus' blood sacrifice over the “blood of “goats and
calves”. The earthy animals could only “cover” people's
sin, but it could not cleanse people from sin. Jesus entered into the
heavenly “Holy of Holies” in the “temple” in
heaven, offered His “own blood” as a sacrifice for our
sins, and thereby “gained” everlasting life for all who will
“trust in, rely upon and cling to” Him. Let all who read these
words worship Him and clearly understand the value of His “own
blood”.
Next
time the writer shares more about the “blood
of bulls and goats”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
