Great Recompense of Reward Hebrews 10:35

The writer of Hebrews shared how his readers “had compassion of” him in his “bonds”, and when their “goods” were “spoiled”, they took it “joyfully” because they knew they were promised “in heaven a better and enduring substance” in their place . In chapter ten and verse thirty-five of Hebrews the writer told his readers about a “great recompense of reward” where we read:

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense of reward.

The verse begins, Cast not away therefore your confidence,...”. The writer began with the words, “Cast not way” which in Greek is the phrase apoballō mē apoballō” means “do not throw off or lose” “therefore” or “then, consequently, these things being so and accordingly” “your confidence” which refers to “the reader's freedom, unreservedness, open, frank, without concealment, ambiguity or circumlocution”. The writer exhorted his readers not to “lose or throw off” their “frankness and unreservedness”.

The verse goes on to say, “...which has great recompense of reward.”. The writer continued with the words, “which has great” or “that has numerous, large and abundant” “recompense of reward” or “payment of wages due or requital”. The “freedom and unreservedness” of the Hebrew readers would have a final benefit of an “abundant future payment”.

When we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see the value in the “confidence” or “faith, freedom and unreservedness” of the readers. There is a promise of “great and abundant payment” or “reward” for all who keep their faith. Jesus Christ came to save people from their sins. He paid the price of death as a “sacrifice” for sins, and those who believe in Him shall be “cleansed and purged” from their errors, mistakes and transgressions. In addition, as they continue in our profession of faith in Jesus, they are promised “eternal life” with “everlasting rewards”. What a glorious God we have the opportunity to know!

Next time the writer shares how his readers “have need of patience”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
