According
to the writer of Hebrews, God did not desire “sacrifice
and offerings”, but rather “a
body” was “prepared”
for Him. In chapter ten
and verse six of Hebrews, the writer shared about more “offerings
and sacrifices” in which God has “had no pleasure”
where we read:
In burnt
offerings and sacrifices
for sin you have had no pleasure.
The
verse begins, “In
burnt offerings and sacrifices
for sin...”. The
writer began with the words, “In
burnt offerings”
which means “the whole burnt victims” “and
sacrifices for” or
“offerings concerning, on account of and because of” “sin”
which refers to “missing the mark, errors and mistakes”. “Burnt
offerings and sacrifices”
were used by the priest because there was “sin”
among the
people.
The
verse goes on to say, “...you have had no pleasure.”.
The writer added the words, “you
have had” or “you held,
possessed and owned” “no pleasure”
which means “that which was good to one, pleasured, did willingly,
thought good, chosen, determined and decided”. Though “burnt
offerings and sacrifices” were
used by the priests, God had no “pleasure”
or “satisfaction” in them.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see the insignificance
from an eternal standpoint concerning the “offerings and
sacrifices” which were presented by the priest. Even though
they were offered because the people had “sinned”, the
“burnt offerings and sacrifices” were incomplete in
“cleansing and purifying” the people from their “errors”. For
this cause, God did not have “pleasure” in these
“offerings and sacrifices”. Jesus came as the perfect
“offering and sacrifice” before God on behalf of people,
and now all who believe in Him shall obtain salvation and live
eternally with Him.
Next
time the writer shares about Jesus about whom “the
volume of the book it is written of”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
