The
writer of Hebrews shared how the “meats, drinks, divers
washings and carnal ordinances”
within the “tabernacle”
were “imposed on”
the priests “until the time of reformation”.
In chapter nine and verse eleven of Hebrews the writer shares
how “Christ” has “become a high priest of good
things” where we read:
But Christ
being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and
more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of
this building;
The
verse begins, “But Christ being come an high priest of
good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle...”.
The writer began with the word,
“But” which is a
disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written
takes precedence over what was just stated “Christ”
which refers to “the anointed one, the Messiah and Son of God”
“being come” which
means “to be present, come near or forth and to approach” “an
high priest” or “a chief of
priests” “of good things”
which means “useful, salutary, pleasant, agreeable, joyful and
happy things” “to come”
or “to be about, on point of doing or suffering something, to
intend, have in mind and think to”, “by a greater” or
“through a larger, elder and stronger” “and more
perfect” which means “and
what is brought to its end, finished, wanting nothing necessary to
completeness, full grown and mature” “tabernacle”
or “a tent like unto that well known moveable temple of God after
the pattern of which the temple at Jerusalem was built”. Jesus
Christ became “a high priest” of
the future “good things”
when He entered the “more grand and complete” heavenly
“tabernacle” of
God.
The
verse goes on to say, “...not made with hands, that is to
say, not of this building;”. The
writer added the words, “not made with
hands” or “not
manufactured of human construction” “that is to say”
or “this is to utter, declare, speak or declare” “not
of this building” which means
“not through the earthly tabernacle”. God's heavenly “tabernacle”
or “temple” was not made by man's “hands”
but rather by God Himself.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we understand the awesomeness of
Jesus' entry as “great high priest” into the heavenly
superior “tabernacle” or “temple” of God. Once again
we see how Jesus excelled by far all the efforts that were
accomplished before Him, and at the “perfect” moment, Jesus
entered into the heavenly “temple” of God and offered Himself as
the sacrifice for our sins. Oh what a “great high priest”
we have in Jesus! May all who read these words hear and understand.
Next
time the writer shares how Jesus “obtained
eternal redemption for us”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
