In
sharing about the “faith”
of Abel, the writer of Hebrews shared how “Abel offered
unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain”and
in chapter eleven and verse five of Hebrews the writer shares
about how “Enoch was translated that he should not see
death” where we read:
By faith
Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found,
because God had translated him: for before his translation he had
this testimony, that he pleased God.
The verse begins, “By
faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death;”.
The writer
began with the words, “By faith”
which means “through the conviction of the truth of anything and
belief with the predominate idea of trust (or confidence) whether in
God or in Christ which springs from trust in the same” “Enoch”
which means
“dedicated” and was “the son of Jared and father of Methuselah”
“was translated”
or “transposed, transferred, changed and turned” “that
he should not see” which
is the Greek phrase “eidō mē
eidō”or
“shall not perceive with the eyes or senses, pay attention to or
observe” “death” which
means “that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and
the body by which the life on earth is ended”. “Enoch”
never experience “death”
on this earth because of his “faith”
and trust in God.
The verse goes on to
say, “and was not found, because God
had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony,
that he pleased God.”. The
writer continued with the words, “and
was not found” which
is the Greek phrase “heuriskō ou
heuriskō”
and means “was not hit upon, met with, and found by inquiry,
thought, examination, scrutiny, observation, practice or experience”,
“because”
which means “on this account and since” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “had
translated him”
which means “transposed, transferred, changed and turned Enoch”:
“for”
or “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore”
“before”
which means “in front of and prior to” “his
translation” or
“Enoch's transposition, transfer, change and turn” “he
had this testimony”
which means “Enoch had this witness, affirmation and good report”,
“that he pleased”
or “Enoch gratified entirely” “God”
which refers to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of
God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Though people
looked for Enoch, he was never found because God “transposed and
changed” him because of “gratifying” God.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we marvel at the extent of
the benefits to having “faith” in God. Enoch was an
example of a person who walked so closely to God that God altered his
earthly state and took him with Him. Enoch “pleased” God because
of his “faith and trust” in Him, and one day, God simply
took Enoch home with Him. Jesus Christ desires for us to have this
kind of “faith” in Him. He came to die for our sins, rose
from the dead and ascended into the heavens to wait for us to join
Him. If we believe in Him, we shall live eternally with Him and be
“translated” as well. Oh let all who read these words understand
and believe.
Next
time the writer shares how “without
faith it is impossible to please” God,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
