“The Holy
Ghost” was a “witness”
to the fact that Jesus would not
only “sit at the right hand of God”
but would also be in that position until “his enemies be
made his footstool”. In
addition, “the Holy Ghost”
was a “witness” to
the fact that Jesus “has perfected for ever them that are
sanctified”, and in
chapter ten and verse sixteen of Hebrews the writer shares
how God will put His “laws in their hearts” and
“write them” “in their minds” where we read:
This
is the
covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord,
I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write
them;
The
verse begins, “This
is
the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the
Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts,...”.
The writer
began with the words, “This is the
covenant”
which refers to “the disposition, arrangement, compact or testament
“that I will make” which
means “that God will arrange, dispose of and make a covenant and
testament” “with them”
or “to the advantage of, near, towards and with regards to those
who believe in Jesus' sacrifice for their sins” “after
those days”
which refers to “hereafter and behind the time for abstaining from
indulgence, vice and crime because acts of the sort are perpetrated
at night and in darkness ”, “says”
or “speaks,
affirms, exhorts, commands, directs and intends” “the
Lord”
which means “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he
has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the
Messiah”, “I will put” or
“God will give, place, deliver, grant, supply, furnish, extend and
present” “my laws”
which means “God's rules that produce a state approved of God”
“into their hearts”
or “within the center of all their physical and spiritual life”.
The writer described the “new
covenant”
that was introduced by Jesus' sacrifice, and it included God saying
He would “grant, present and deliver” His “laws”
into the “center of all” the people's “physical and spiritual
life”.
The
verse continues, “...and in their
minds will I write them;”. The
writer added the words, “and in their
minds” or
“their faculties of
understanding, feeling and desire”
“will I write”
which means “will God inscribe”
“them”
which refers to “the laws”. Because of what Jesus did, God will
also “inscribe” His “laws”
within the “minds”
of people.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we discover the awesome God we
have opportunity to serve. Not only has God given His “laws”
to us, but through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ, we now have
them “placed” and “written” upon our “hearts and minds”.
In other words, every person has a sense of God's law within them,
and we may know what He desires as a “state approved” unto Him.
Next
time the writer shares how God will no more “remember”
“their sins and iniquities”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
