According
to the writer of Hebrews, Jesus “sat down on the right
hand of God” “after he had offered one sacrifice for sins”,
and in chapter ten and verse thirteen of Hebrews the writer
shares how Jesus was to remain there
until “his enemies be made his footstool” where we
read:
From
henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
The
verse begins, “From
henceforth expecting...”. The
writer began with the word, “From
henceforth” which
means “for the remaining, rest, hereafter and future” “expecting”
or “looking and waiting for”. From the time He “sat
down on the right hand of God”
Jesus was “waiting” and “expecting” what the writer is about
to declared.
The
verse continues, “...till his enemies be made his
footstool.”. The writer added
the word, “till his enemies” or
“even to and until Jesus' hated, odious and opposing hostile ones”
“be made” which
means “be set, put, placed, bent or laid down as” “his
footstool” which literally
means “the place where one's feet are beneath, subject and reduced
under one's power” and metaphorically means “the practice of
conquerors who placed their feet on the necks of their conquered
enemies”. Jesus is sitting “at the right hand of God”
until the time when all His “enemies”
will be made subject and beneath Him.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we see the awesome power and
authority of our Lord Jesus Christ. When He gave His life, one time,
as a sacrifice for our sins, He was positioned at the “right
hand of God” where He now resides until all His “enemies”
are made subject to Him. Jesus is the “way, the truth and the
life”, and all who receive Him as Savior and Lord are promised
not only “salvation” and eternal life, but are not considered
“the enemies” of Him. All others who do not believe, shall
“be made his footstool” whereby they shall know He is
indeed “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords”.
Next
time the writer shares how Jesus “by
one offering he has perfected”
“the sanctified”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
