“A
testament”, according to the
writer of Hebrews, “is of force after men are dead”,
because “otherwise
it is of no strength at all while the testator lives”.
In chapter nine and verse eighteen of Hebrews, the writer
shares how the “first
testament” was not
“dedicated without blood” where we read:
The
verse begins, “Whereupon
neither the first testament...”.
The writer
began with the word, “Whereupon”
which means “from the place, source and cause which” “neither”
or “not or not even” “the first
testament”
which refers to “the chief in time, place, rank, influence and
honor disposition, arrangement, compact or testament”. The writer
made reference to how the “first
covenant”
was “not even” done without what he is about to share.
The
verse goes on to say, “...was dedicated without blood.”.
The writer continued with the
words, “was dedicated” or
“was renewed, made anew, initiated and consecrated” “without
blood” which means “apart
from and beside bloodshed”. The “first testament”
was not initiated without “bloodshed”.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see the importance of
“bloodshed” at the “dedication” of God's “first
covenant” to man. The priests offered “blood”
sacrifices when Moses erected the “first” tabernacle, and when
Jesus went into the heavenly temple, He offered His own “blood”
as the “dedication” for the “new testament”.
Because He did, He provided a way for us to have a personal
relationship with God.
Next
time the writer shares how “Moses
had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
