Because
Jesus, our “great high priest”,
offered Himself as a “sacrifice”
for our “sins”, we
have access to God and may “draw near”
to Him “with a true heart in full assurance of faith”. “Our
hearts” have been “sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our
bodies washed with pure water”, and in chapter ten and verse
twenty-three of Hebrews the writer encouraged
his readers to “hold fast the profession of our faith”
where we read:
The
verse begins, “Let
us hold fast the profession of our
faith without wavering;”. The
writer began with the words, “Let us
hold fast”
which means “keep, possess, have and make” “the
profession”
or “what one confesses and acknowledges” “of
our faith”
which refers to “expectation of good and hope of joyful and
confident expectation of eternal salvation” “without
wavering” which
means “not inclining, firm and unmoved”. The writer encouraged
his readers to “keep” their “confession” of “belief,
confidence and trust” “without moving or vacillating” at all.
The
verse continues, “(for he is
faithful that promised;)”. The
writer added the words, (“for he is
faithful” or
“because, since and on account that God is trusty and reliable”
“that promised”)
which means “who announces what He is about to do, furnish or
engage voluntarily”. God is “reliable and trustworthy” to keep
everything He has “announced” He would do.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see how the writer
encouraged his readers to “keep” the “confession” of their
“faith without vacillating” in doubt. God is “faithful”
with what He has “promised”, and those who have put their “faith
and trust” in Him have no need for doubt. Jesus Christ came to
provide “everlasting life” for all who believe in Him, and
when they do, they can count on God to be “faithful” in
His “promises”.
Next
time the writer tells his readers to “consider
one another to provoke unto love”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
