The
writer of Hebrews shared how “every
priest stands daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same
sacrifices, which can never take away sins”,
and in chapter ten and verse twelve of
Hebrews the writer shared
how when Jesus “offered one
sacrifice” He
“sat down on the right hand of God” where
we read:
But this
man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down
on the right hand of God;
The
verse begins, “But
this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever,...”.
The writer
began with the word, “But” which
is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “this
man” which
refers to “Jesus Christ”, “after
he had offered”
or “after Jesus had brought in, lead and presented” “one
sacrifice”
which means “one victim” “for
sins” or
“on behalf of and for the sake of errors, mistakes and missing of
the marks” “for ever”
which means “towards continuous action”. Unlike the priests who
daily had to offer “sacrifices” that could “never
take away sins”,
the writer referred to the time after Jesus “offered
one” complete
and continuous “sacrifice”
within the heavenly temple “for
sins”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...sat down on
the right hand of God;”. The
writer continued with the words, “sat
down” or
“to sit and fix one's abode and to settle down” “on
the right hand”
which means “at the right hand which is the place of honor and
authority” “of God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. After Jesus
presented his “offering”,
He took His place of “honor and authority” at God's
“right hand”.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see how Jesus was
positioned in the high place of “honor” with God once He made a
sacrifice of Himself for the “sins” of people. When Jesus
died on the cross for our sins, He gave the ultimate, continuous and
perfect sacrifice before God who placed Him in the position of
“authority” which is above all others who exist. Those who
realize what God has done through Jesus Christ His Son shall bow
their knees before Him and confess with their mouths that Jesus
Christ is Lord.
Next
time the writer asks “how
much more shall the blood of Christ”
“purge
your conscience from dead works”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
