The
writer of Hebrews shared how Jesus said, “Lo, I come to
do your will, O God” and then
declared, “He takes away the first, that he may
establish the second” while
referring to the old and new covenant. In chapter ten and
verse ten of Hebrews the writer shares
how “once for all” where we read:
The
verse begins, “By the which will we are sanctified...”.
The writer began with the words,
“By the which”,
which means “altogether
through Jesus keeping the will of God” “will” which
refers to “what God wishes or has determined shall be done; the
purpose, command, precepts, choice, inclination, desire or pleasure
of Him” “we are” or
“the writer and his readers” “are sanctified”
or “rendered, acknowledged, venerable, hallowed, separate,
consecrated and dedicated to God”. When Jesus desired and obeyed
the “will” of God
the Father by offering Himself on the cross for our “sins”
we became “separate and
dedicated to God”.
The
verse continues, “...through
the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for
all.”
The
writer added the words, “through
the offering” or
“by means of, therefore and on this account the act of bringing,
presenting an expiatory gift” “of
the body”,
which refers to “the corpse” “of
Jesus Christ”
or “of Jehovah is salvation who is the anointed Messiah and Son of
God” “once”
or “one time” “for
all”
which means “on behalf of each, every, the whole and everyone”.
When Jesus offered His body on the cross for the “sins” of man,
He made it available for every person to become “sanctified”
or “set apart and dedicated” to the purposes of God.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we see the significance of Jesus
“offering his body” upon the cross. He was perfect and completely
without sin, and therefore became the “perfect sacrifice” for the
“sins” of man. When Jesus gave His life to die, which was
the penalty for sin (See Romans 6:23), He gave everyone who “believes
in Him” access to the Heavenly Father for all of eternity.
Salvation and “sanctification” is available to everyone,
and those who are wise will receive His wonderful gift and declare
Him as “Savior and Lord”.
Next
time the writer shares
how “every
priest stands daily ministering and offering ”
but could never “take away sins”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
