Jesus Kneeling and Praying - Luke 22:41

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that you enter not into temptation”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse forty-one of his book Luke shared how Jesus, “was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed” where we read:

And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

The verse reads,And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, ...” Luke began with the words, “And he or “and Jesus” “was withdrawn from them” which means “was torn away and drawn apart from His disciples” “about a stone's cast” or “around the distance that a little rock or stone might be thrown”. Luke shared how Jesus separated from His disciples about as far as a person might throw a “stone” away.

The verse continues, “... and kneeled down, and prayed,” Luke added the words, “and kneeled down” or “and bent down, set and established Himself upon His physical knees”, “and prayed” which means “and supplicated, made orations and worshiped God”. Luke shared how Jesus sunk to His knees and began to “pray” to His Father God.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus separated Himself from His disciples during this time of “prayer”. He had separated Himself in prayer in the past to “mountain” areas, but this time would be His final time before He was betrayed to call out to His Father God. We can only imagine the thoughts of Jesus as He knew what lie before Him, and we shall find this time of “prayer” to be one of the most important in His life. Jesus went through all these things so people might believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they do, they will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words pay particular attention to all the detail concerning this time of Jesus' “prayer”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “Father, if you be willing, remove this cup from me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
