The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse forty of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “pray that you enter not into temptation” where we read:
And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that you enter not into temptation.
The verse reads, “And when he was at the place, he said unto them, ...” Luke began with the words, “And when” or “and at the time and moment” “he was at the place” which means “Jesus was at the spot and location”, “he said unto them” or “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”. Luke shared how Jesus came to the specific location He desired, and proclaimed the following words to His disciples.
The verse goes on to say, “... Pray that you enter not into temptation.” Luke continues with the words, “pray that you enter not” or “supplicate, worship and make earnest orations to God that you, disciples of Jesus, do not arise and make entrance ” “into temptation” which means “into trial, proving, integrity, constancy and enticement to sin”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed His disciples to “pray” to God that they would not be “enticed into sin”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus went to a specific place on the “Mount of Olives” and instructed His disciples to “make orations” toward God so they would not be “enticed to sin”. The very idea that Jesus directed His “disciples” to “pray” means there was the possibility they would “fall into sin”. Jesus was intentional in His purpose to be where He was, and He desired that His “followers” not be persuaded otherwise. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and anyone who yields their life to Him will be “saved” from their sins and be granted everlasting life with God.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
