The beloved Luke physician wrote, “Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where will you that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when you are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse eleven of his book Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples to ask, “Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?” Jesus where we read:
And you shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master says unto you, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
The verse reads, “And you shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master says unto you, Where is the guest-chamber, ...” Luke began with the words, “and you shall say” or “and you, Peter and John, will utter, declare, proclaim and ask” “unto the goodman” which means “of the householder or master” “of the house” or “belonging to the dwelling place, habitation or abode”, “the Master” which refers to “the instructor and teacher” “says unto you” or “utters, declares, proclaims and asks you, householder”, “Where is the guest-chamber” which means “in what location or place is the lodging place or eating an dining room”? Luke shared how Jesus instructed Peter and John to tell the “householder” of the dwelling place that He, the Master and teacher, wants to know where the “dining and eating room” is located.
The verse continues, “... where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?” Luke added the words, “where I shall eat the passover” or “in which place and location I, Jesus, will consume and devour the paschal sacrifice which was accustomed to be offered for the people's deliverance of old from Egypt” “with my disciples” which means “alongside of my, Jesus', students, teachers and attendants”? Luke shared how Jesus said the “location” of the “dining room” would be where He and His disciples would “eat the passover” with His students and attendants.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we discover another step Peter and John were to take to understand where they were to prepare the “passover meal”. When they followed the man “bearing a pitcher of water to his home”, they were to ask on Jesus' behalf, where was the location of the “dining area” in his home. This would be the place Jesus would observe the “paschal sacrifice” which was a type of Him coming to be the “lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. God has a plan, and He is constantly working it out to fulfill His purposes. When a person takes the time to consider all these details leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus, they should understand God carried out every one of them to “save” their soul. Those who are wise will believe and trust in Jesus who not only had a plan on earth, but also has a plan for all eternity.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells His disciples the goodman of the house, “shall show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
