In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph shared how, “A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse six of Psalms Asaph shared how, “they break down the carved work” where we read,
But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
The verse begins, “But now they break down the carved work thereof ...” Asaph began with the words, “but now” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at this time” “they break down the carved work” which means “the people with axes cut down the graven works within God's sacred worship place” “thereof” or “within the sacred worship place”. Asaph shared how the people with axes began to cut down the graven works within the sacred worship place of God.
The verse goes on to say, “... at once with axes and hammers.” Asaph continued with the words, “at once with axes” or “immediately and suddenly by the use of axes for cutting trees” “and hammers” which means “and large sledge hammers or clubs”. Asaph said the hating foes of God also used club like sledge hammers to destroy the sacred worship place.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how the enemies of God not only set up their banners near the sacred place, but they also began to destroy it with their axes and clubs. The “enemies” of God desire to destroy every person, and they want everyone to be separated from God forever and ever. God, however, loves people, and He demonstrated His love by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and defend against His hating foes for all eternity.
Next time Asaph shares how, “they have cast fire into your sanctuary”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
