In Psalms chapter seventy-one David said, “O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help”, and in chapter seventy-one and verse thirteen of Psalms David said, “let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries” where we read,
Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul;
let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt.
The verse begins, “Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul;” David began with the words, “let them be confounded” or “allow and permit them, David's hating foes and adversaries, exist as ashamed, disconcerted and disappointed” “and consumed” which means “and ceased, failed, ended and finished” “that are adversaries” or “who exist as resisting attackers” “to my soul” which means “toward my, David's, inner man, heart, mind, will, living being, desire and seat of appetites, emotions and passions”. David wanted his hating foes to be ashamed, disconcerted and finished who were in opposition to his heart, mind and will.
The verse continues, “let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt.” David added the words, “let them be covered” or “allow and permit them, David's hating foes and adversaries, to exist as wrapped, enveloped, rolled and clad” “with reproach” which means “by the means of scorn, taunting and disgrace” “and dishonor” or “and shame, confusion, insult and ignominy” “that seek my hurt” which means “who require, desire, exact and request my, David's, bad, evil, malignancy and worse”. David wanted his hating foes and adversaries to be enveloped with taunting, disgrace, confusion and shame because they looked for evil and malignancy to be in his life.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David appealed to Jehovah God to contend with his enemies. David suggested that they be permitted to be ashamed, disappointed, disconcerted and taunted with disgrace. God knows when people hate us, and He knows what we are going through. God sent His Son Jesus to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and accompanied by Him as He takes vengeance upon those who rise up against us. (See Romans 12:19)
Next time David says, “I will hope continually, and will yet praise you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
