In Psalms chapter seventy-two David said of Jehovah God, “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse nine of Psalms David said, “they that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him” where we read,
They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
The verse begins, “They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him;” David began with the words, “they that dwell in the wilderness” or “they, the people, who live, abide and make their habitation within the desert” “shall bow before him” which means “will sink down and kneel in reverence in front and in the presence of him, the royal ruler Solomon and the Messiah”. David said people who live in the desert place will kneel down in the presence of the royal ruler.
The verse continues, “and his enemies shall lick the dust.” David added the words, “and his enemies” or “and his, the royal ruler's, hating foes and adversaries” “shall lick the dust” which means “will lick up the dry loose earth, debris, mortar and ore”. David said the hating foes of the royal ruler would lick up the loose dry earth.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how vast the kingdom of the royal ruler shall be. He shall govern over people who live in the desert, and those who hate him will be driven to “lick up” the dry and pulverized dirt of the earth. David wanted Jehovah God to bless his son Solomon in such a manner that people throughout the world, even in desert places, would kneel before him, and the adversaries who hated him would “lick” the dirt of the ground. This foretold the idea of God's Messiah Jesus who is the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. (See Romans 14:11) God's invitation is to everyone, and when we believe in Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, we will be forgiven and inherit everlasting life with God. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus Christ for their plan of salvation and dominion over everyone in the world.
Next time David says, “the kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
