Why Do You Withdraw Your Hand? - Psalms 74:11

In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph shared how the enemies of God cut down and destroyed the sacred worship place, and Asaph asked, “O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme your name for ever?”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse eleven of Psalms Asaph asked, why do you withdraw your hand, even your right hand?where we read,

Why do you withdraw your hand, even your right hand? pluck it out of your bosom.

The verse begins, Why do you withdraw your hand, even your right hand?” Asaph began with the words, “why do you withdraw your hand” or “for what reason and cause do you, Divine judge Jehovah God, hold back and reserve your, Jehovah God's, hand of strength and might”, “even your right hand” which means “indeed and also your, Jehovah God's, right hand of power and authority”? Asaph asked Jehovah God for the reason that he held back and reserved His mighty and authoritative hand.

The verse continues, pluck it out of your bosom.” Asaph added the words, “pluck it out” or “determine, plot and bring to pass your hand from out” “of your bosom” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, chest or pocket to destroy them”. Asaph wanted Jehovah God to take his right hand of authority out of the folds of His garments and slay His hating foes and adversaries.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph wanted Jehovah God to act against his enemies. Asaph knew God had the power, might and authority to defeat His hating foes, so he asked God for the reason that He held back His power. God is well aware of all the evil acts of those who oppose Him, and although it may seem that He is aloof, uncaring or inactive, He has a plan, purpose and timing to deal with His foes. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that He will use His right hand of authority to contend with those who oppose Him.

Next time Asaph says, For God is my King of old, working salvation, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
