In Psalms chapter seventy-two David said of Jehovah God, “he shall deliver the needy when he cries; the poor also, and him that has no helper”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse thirteen of Psalms David said, “he shall spare the poor and needy” where we read,
He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
The verse begins, “He shall spare the poor and needy, ...” David began with the words, “He shall spare” or “He, the royal ruler, will pity, have compassion upon and regard” “the poor” which means “the afflicted, humble and lowly” “and needy” or “and people in want, subject to oppression, abused and destitute”. David repeated the idea that the royal ruler would pity and have compassion upon people who are humble, lowly and abused.
The verse continues, “... and shall save the souls of the needy.” David added the words, “and shall save” or “and will rescue, liberate and deliver” “the souls of the needy” which means “the inner man, heart, mind, living being, desire and seat of emotions and passions belonging to people who in want, subject to oppression, abused and destitute”. David said the royal ruler would also deliver the inner man, heart and mind of people who are subject to oppression and destitute.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David reemphasized the idea of the royal ruler, his son Solomon, caring for people who were “poor and needy”. The royal ruler would rescue and deliver the inner man, heart and mind of people who were destitute. God loves people, and He puts it within rulers to govern over people who are oppressed in a compassionate way. In like manner, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the ability to have compassion upon others who are “poor and needy” like us.
Next time David says, “he shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
