Cleaving the Fountain and the Flood - Psalms 74:15

In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph said,For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You did divide the sea by your strength: you break the heads of the dragons in the waters. You break the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse fifteen of Psalms Asaph said, You did cleave the fountain and the floodwhere we read,

You did cleave the fountain and the flood: you dried up mighty rivers.

The verse begins, You did cleave the fountain and the flood:” Asaph began with the words, “you did cleave” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, split, broke open, ripped up and tore” “the fountain” which means “the spring or well” “and the flood” or “and the torrent, wadi or stream bed”. Asaph said Jehovah God caused the “springs and streams” to gush forth.

The verse continues, you dried up mighty rivers.” Asaph added the words, “you dried up” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, withered, made without moisture and exhibited dryness within” “mighty rivers” which means “perpetual, constant, perennial, permanent and enduring streams or floodwaters”. Asaph referred to the way Jehovah God removed the rushing waters from the streams and floodwaters.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph made reference to the Divine judge Jehovah God's power to break apart the springs, wells and torrents in the streams, and He shriveled the waters within the torrential floodwaters. God has power over the waters of the earth. He made them, and He is able to dry them up, alter them or remove them if He desires. This powerful Creator and Almighty God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for their sins. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to depend on Him regardless of the torrential streams that come against us.

Next time Asaph says, the day is yours, the night also is yours, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
