In Psalms chapter seventy-three Asaph said, “I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment”, and in chapter seventy-three and verse seven of Psalms Asaph said, “their eyes stand out with fatness” where we read,
Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
The verse begins, “Their eyes stand out with fatness:” Asaph began with the words, “their eyes stand out” or “the physical eyes or mental and spiritual faculties of the foolish and wicked comes forth, proceeds and goes forward” “with fatness” which means “by the use of the choicest, most abundant, finest and richest portion”. Asaph referred to the way the foolish and wicked people proceed and were exalted with abundance.
The verse goes on to say, “they have more than heart could wish.” Asaph continued with the words, “they have more than” or “they, the foolish and wicked people, own and possess a greater, more abundant and exceedingly copious amount than” “heart could wish” which means “an inner man, mind, will, soul, understanding, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory, inclination, resolution, determination and conscience is able to picture or imagine”. Asaph said the foolish and wicked people possess a greater amount than their soul and mind might every imagine.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph noted the abundant and rich exaltation of the people who were foolish and wicked because they possessed more than they could ever imagine. Abundance and wealth can make people think themselves to be “self-made” and invincible, however, God alone allows people to receive gain and riches which are at best for the earth and temporary. God knows we are eternal beings, and regardless of how much we gain on earth, it will all be left behind when we die. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide riches and gain that will last forever. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God for sending His Son Jesus and allowing us to receive His eternal riches which shall last forever and ever.
Next time Asaph says, “they are corrupt, and speak wickedly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
