In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph shared how, “A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse seven of Psalms Asaph said, “they have cast fire into your sanctuary” where we read,
They have cast fire into your sanctuary,
they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of your name to the ground.
The verse begins, “They have cast fire into your sanctuary, ...” Asaph began with the words, “they have cast fire” or “they, the enemies of God, have thrown, shot forth and let go of fiery fire” “into your sanctuary” which means “into your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, sacred, holy and hallowed place”. Asaph said the hating foes of Jehovah God let go of “fire” into the sacred and holy place of God.
The verse continues, “... they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of your name to the ground.” Asaph added the words, “they have defiled” or “they, the enemies of God, have profaned, desecrated and polluted” “by casting down” which means “through the means of being thrown in a downward direction” “the dwelling place of your name” or “the tabernacle, tent or habitation belonging to your, Jehovah God's, fame, reputation and glory” “to the ground” which means “toward the land, earth, country and territory”. Asaph said the enemies of Jehovah God profaned to the ground the sacred place and habitation which pertained to His fame, reputation and glory.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how the hating foes of God continued to destroy His temple by “fire”, and they threw it to the grown even though it was His fame, reputation and glory was attached to it. People who disregard and disbelieve God do not resist destroying anything that is attached to Him even when it is associated with His “name”. God loves people, and His invitation is for every person to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Lest we be like those who attempt to destroy God and His “sanctuary” and will face Him in judgment, let us give praise, honor and glory to Him for His forgiveness and promise of everlasting life to those who believe.
Next time Asaph shares how, “they said in their hearts, let us destroy them together”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
