Psalms chapter seventy-two begins with the heading, “[[A Psalm for Solomon.]]” which breaks down, “A Psalm” or “a song or melody set to notes” “for Solomon” which means “on behalf of Solomon whose name means peace and was the son of David by Bathsheba and third king of Israel and the author of Proverbs and Song of Songs”, and in chapter seventy-two and verse one of Psalms David said, “Give the king your judgments, O God” where we read,
Give the king your judgments, O God, and your righteousness unto the king's son.
The verse begins, “Give the king your judgments, O God, ...” David began with the words, “give the king” or “grant, bestow, deliver and ascribe to the royal ruler” “your judgments” which means “your, Jehovah God's, justice, ordinance and acts of deciding a case”, “O God” or “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to grant unto the royal ruler His ordinances and acts of deciding a case.
The verse continues, “... and your righteousness unto the king's son.” David added the words, “and your righteousness” or “and your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, rightness, justice, truthfulness, justification and salvation” “unto the king's son” which means “toward the royal ruler's male progeny and offspring”. David desired that the Divine judge Jehovah God extend to his male offspring the rightness and truthfulness which was from Him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David was praying for Jehovah God to grant to his son, Solomon, His wisdom, truthfulness and acts of deciding a case. We know Solomon later asked Jehovah God for His wisdom (See 1 Kings 3:1-15), but this demonstrates David's concern for Solomon in advance of his desire. God loves us, and His wisdom and “judgments” are truthful and correct. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our errors, mistakes and wrongs, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the opportunity to ask Him to bless us and our children with His “justice and righteousness” for making decisions in this world.
Next time David says, “He shall judge your people with righteousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
