Truly God is Good to Israel - Psalms 73:1

Psalms chapter seventy-three begins with the heading,[[A Psalm of Asaph.]] which breaks down, “A Psalm” or “a poem or melody set to notes” “of Asaph” which means “belonging to Asaph whose name means gatherer and was a son of Berechiah and the chief Levite musician under David”, and in chapter seventy-three and verse one of Psalms Asaph said, “Truly God is good to Israel” where we read,

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

The verse begins, Truly God is good to Israel, ... Asaph began with the words, “truly God” or “surely, verily and indeed the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “is good” which means “exists as pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable” “to Israel” or “toward Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. Asaph declared the Divine judge Jehovah God to be pleasant, agreeable and valuable to the nation of Israel and the people within it.

The verse goes on to say, “... even to such as are of a clean heart. Asaph continued with the words, “even to such as are of” or “indeed toward people who exist with” “a clean heart” which means “a pure, sincere and clear inner man, soul, mind, living being, desire and seat of emotions and passions”. Asaph continued with the idea of God also being pleasant and agreeable to people who have pure and sincere souls and minds.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover that Asaph declared the pleasantness and excellence of the Divine judge Jehovah God toward “Israel” and people with clear and pure hearts and minds. God is pure and holy, and His desire is to have a sacred personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and purify our hearts and minds to be like His.

Next time Asaph says, “as for me, my feet were almost gone”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
