No More Any Prophet - Psalms 74:9

In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph shared how,A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers. They have cast fire into your sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of your name to the ground. They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse nine of Psalms Asaph shared how the people say, we see not our signs; there is no more any prophetwhere we read,

We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet:

neither is there among us any that knows how long.

The verse begins, We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet:” Asaph began with the words, “we see not our signs” or “we, Asaph and his people, do not behold or observe our, Asaph and his people's, signals and banners of remembrance”: “there is no more any prophet” which means “there exists no longer any spokesman, speaker or one who prophecies”. Asaph said he and his people no longer observed their banners of remembrance, and the men with prophetic voices were gone from them.

The verse continues, neither is there among us any that knows how long.” Asaph added the words, “neither is there among us” or “no and not in any way exist there alongside and beside us, Asaph and his people” “any that knows how long” which means “not one person who is aware, perceives and understands for what length of time this will last nor when it will end”. Asaph said there did not exist any person who was able to determine for what length of time the trouble of God's enemies would last or when it would be finished.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph and his people were unable to observe their banners of remembrance, and they no longer had prophets among them. They were also unable to find anyone who could tell them how long this troublesome time would last. We can almost hear the anguish in Asaph's words. Jehovah God, however, gives hope to people who will put their faith and trust in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. He sent Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that time is within His control. We may give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for providing salvation to us which shall last for all eternity regardless of how long difficulties last on earth.

Next time Asaph asks, O God, how long shall the adversary reproach?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
