In Psalms chapter seventy-three Asaph said, “I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm”, and in chapter seventy-three and verse five of Psalms Asaph said, “they are not in trouble as other men” where we read,
They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
The verse begins, “They are not in trouble as other men;” Asaph began with the words, “they are not in trouble” or “they, the foolish and wicked, do not exist in miserable, painful and grievous mischief, toils and labors” “as other men” which means “in likeness to other people both male and female”. Asaph said the “foolish and wicked” people do not suffer grievous and painful labors and experiences like others.
The verse goes on to say, “neither are they plagued like other men.” Asaph continued with the words, “neither are they plagued” or “no and not in any do they, the foolish and wicked, exist as stricken, defeated and beaten” “like other men” which means “similar to other people both male and female”. Asaph said the “foolish and wicked” are not defeated and beaten like others.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph shared how people who are foolish and wicked do not experience miserable toils and labors like others, nor do they suffer defeat like them. In other words, Asaph saw how evil people seemed to never suffer affliction and immense difficulties. God knows every affliction and trouble that comes upon us, and He identified with us when He sent His Son Jesus to suffer and die on the cross so we might have a personal relationship with Him. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life with God and enjoy the company of His Holy Spirit who will be with us in every situation, circumstance and “trouble” that comes our way.
Next time Asaph says, “pride compasses them about”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
