In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph said, “For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You did divide the sea by your strength: you break the heads of the dragons in the waters”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse thirteen of Psalms Asaph said, “You break the heads of the leviathan in pieces” where we read,
You break the heads of leviathan in pieces,
and gave him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
The verse begins, “You break the heads of leviathan in pieces, ...” Asaph began with the words, “you break the heads” or “you, the Divine judge Jehovah God, crush, bruise and grievously oppress the top, summit, upper part and top of the heads” “of leviathan” which means “pertaining to a dragon, large aquatic animal or sea monster” “in pieces” or “in crushed and broken parts”. Asaph referred to the way the Divine judge Jehovah God bruises and crushes the summit of the large aquatic sea monster into broken parts.
The verse goes on to say, “... and gave him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.” Asaph continued with the words, “and gave him to be meat” or “and bestowed, granted, ascribed, employed, consecrated and dedicated as food, fruit or victual” “to the people” which means “toward the animals who were” “inhabiting the wilderness” or “living, dwelling and abiding within the wild desert place”. Asaph said the Divine judge Jehovah God provided the “Leviathan” to be food for the animals that were living in the wild desert place.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph referred to another powerful ability of Jehovah God. The sea monster known as “Leviathan” was no problem for God to crush in parts and to become food for wild desert animals. The idea is that God is greater than any of His creation, and He is more than able to provide for and defend those who put their faith and trust in Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and grow in their relationship with Him so they understand “nothing is impossible” with God. (See Luke 1:37)
Next time Asaph says, “You did cleave the fountain and the flood”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
