In Psalms chapter seventy-six Asaph said, “The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands”, and in chapter seventy-six and verse six of Psalms Asaph shared what happens, “at your rebuke, O God of Jacob” where we read,
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.
The verse begins, “At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, ...” Asaph began with the words, “at your rebuke” or “at your, Jehovah God's, reproof or chiding”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “of Jacob” or “belonging to Jacob whose name means heel catcher or supplanter and was son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel”. Asaph referred to the of the Divine judge Jehovah God who belongs to “Jacob” or the tribes of Israel.
The verse goes on to say, “... both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.” Asaph continued with the words, “both the chariot” or “the riders, horsemen and men riding in wagons of warfare” “and horse” which means “and the swallow, swift or chariot horses” “are cast into a dead sleep” or “are thrust into a heavy and unconscious slumber even unto death”. Asaph said the wagons of warfare and their “horses” of God's enemies are thrown into unconscious slumber or death.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how powerful the reproof of Jehovah God is upon His hating foes. God is the God of Israel, and the weapons of warfare used by His enemies are easily put to sleep and death. Isaiah the prophet wrote, “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn” (See Isaiah 54:17), and when Jehovah God takes action against His enemies, none can stand in opposition to Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will receive His forgiveness of sins, inherit everlasting life and watch as He contends with the hating foes who are determined to destroy us.
Next time Asaph says to Jehovah God, “you, are to be feared”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
