In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph said, “I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse four of Psalms Asaph said, “you hold my eyes waking” where we read,
You hold my eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
The verse begins, “You hold my eyes waking:” Asaph began with the words, “you hold my eyes” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, grasp, seize and take possession of my Asaph's, physical eyes” “waking” which means “with eyelids open”. Asaph told the Divine judge Jehovah God that He kept his eyes from sleeping.
The verse goes on to say, “I am so troubled that I cannot speak.” Asaph continued with the words, “I am so troubled” or “I, Asaph, exist as impelled, beaten, disturbed and beaten persistently” “that I cannot speak” which means “so I, Asaph, am unable to utter, declare or make proclamations”. Asaph declared that he was so disturbed that he was unable to talk or make declarations.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph knew Jehovah God kept him from sleeping, and he was so disturbed that he was unable to talk. In other words, Asaph was so overwhelmed that he was unable to sleep or say anything about it. There are times when we are overcome by our circumstances, and Jehovah God wants us to know He is available to help anyone who clings to, relies upon and trusts in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. Mankind's greatest problem is their sin which separates them from a personal relationship with God, and that is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be available to us whenever we are so distressed we are unable to sleep or talk about it.
Next time Asaph says, “I have considered the days of old”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
