In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph said, “I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. You hold my eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse five of Psalms Asaph said, “I have considered the days of old” where we read,
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
The verse begins, “I have considered the days of old, ...” Asaph began with the words, “I have considered” or “I, Asaph, have thought about, reckoned, valued and regarded” “the days of old” which means “the period or division of time from antiquity, before and from ancient and earliest time”. Asaph referred to his thinking about the past or days gone by.
The verse continues, “... the years of ancient times.” Asaph added the words, “the years” or “the division of time or whole age” “of ancient times” which means “pertaining to long duration, antiquity, futurity, everlasting and of a long time”. Asaph referred to the years long past.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph thought about the past, and the divisions of time from antiquity. In other words, Asaph remembered the past times when Jehovah God delivered him. God loves people, and He has been working in our lives since the time we were born. He knows we are sinners, and our sin separates us from a personal relationship with Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for our sins, and when we put our faith and trust in Him, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and have Him to rely upon as we remember the former times when He has worked in our lives.
Next time Asaph says, “I call to remembrance my song in the night”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
