In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph said, “I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse six of Psalms Asaph said, “I call to remembrance my song in the night” where we read,
I call to remembrance my song in the night:
I commune with my own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.
The verse begins, “I call to remembrance my song in the night:” Asaph began with the words, “I call to remembrance” or “I, Asaph, remember and recall” “my song” which means “my, Asaph's, taunting or mocking song” “in the night” or “within the nighttime or night season”. Asaph said he recalled the time when he made taunting music within the nighttime.
The verse goes on to say, “I commune with my own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.” Asaph continued with the words, “I commune with my own heart” or “I, Asaph, put forth, meditated, mused, spoke, complained and pondered by the use of my, Asaph's, own personal inner man, soul, mind, understanding, inclination, resolution, determination, living being, desires and seat of emotions and passions”: “and my spirit” which means “and my, Asaph's, mind, breath, vivacity, vigor and courage” “made diligent search” or “sought for thoroughly and completely”. Asaph shared how he spoke to himself and discovered that his inner man, mind and heart were thoroughly looking for and seeking.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph recalled how he received a musical interlude within the nighttime, and he began to speak to himself within his soul. His inner man began to seek Jehovah God because of his distress. God understands when we encounter times like this in our lives, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind for this reason. When we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us when we have a song in the night, remember our past and talk to ourselves as we seek Him.
Next time Asaph asks, “Will the Lord cast off for ever?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
