In Psalms chapter seventy-six Asaph said to Jehovah God, “You, even you, are to be feared: and who may stand in your sight when once you are angry?”, and in chapter seventy-six and verse eight of Psalms Asaph said to Jehovah God, “you did cause judgment to be heard from heaven” where we read,
You did cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still,
The verse begins, “You did cause judgment to be heard from heaven;” Asaph began with the words, “you did cause judgment” or “you, Jehovah God, made condemnation, dispute, plea and strife” “to be heard” which means “to exist as listened to, perceived by ear and understood” “from heaven” or “separate and apart from the visible heavens, sky, abode of the stars and the dwelling place of Jehovah God”. Asaph said Jehovah God made condemnation, dispute and strife to be perceived and understood from the sky and His dwelling place.
The verse goes on to say, “the earth feared, and was still,” Asaph continued with the words, “the earth feared” or “the country, territory, region and world stood in awe, reverenced, honored and respected”, “and was still” which means “and existed as quiet, tranquil, undisturbed and inactive”. Asaph said the world stood in awe of Jehovah God and became inactive when His judgment fell.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God made His “judgment” to be known from His Heavenly abode and caused the world to be in awe and reverence of Him. The world became inactive and quiet because God demonstrate His righteousness and justice. No one is able to stand before God when He allows His “judgment” to come, and this is why He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for our sins. Sin was judged on the cross, and when we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from His judgment that is certain to fall upon all those who refuse and reject Him as the righteous and Almighty God.
Next time Asaph shares about, “when God arose to judgment”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
