Redeemed with God's Arm - Psalms 77:15

In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph said, “You are the God that does wonders: you have declared your strength among the people”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse fifteen of Psalms Asaph said, You have with your arm redeemed your people” where we read,

You have with your arm redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

The verse begins, You have with your arm redeemed your people, ... Asaph began with the words, “You have with your arm” or “you, Jehovah God, by the use of your, Jehovah God's, forearm or shoulder as a symbol of strength whether political or military” “redeemed your people” which means “avenged, ransomed and acted as a kinsman-redeemer for your, Jehovah God's, nation, compatriots, countrymen, kinsman and kindred”. Asaph said Jehovah God ransomed and avenged His nation with His mighty “arm” of strength.

The verse continues,... the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. Asaph added the words, “the sons of Jacob” or “the offspring, descendants and progeny belonging to Jacob whose name means heel holder or supplanter and was son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel” “and Joseph” which means “and Joseph whose name means Jehovah has added and was the eldest son of Jacob by Rachel” “Selah” or “uplift, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. Asaph referred to the offspring of “Jacob and Joseph” as He specifically named the tribes of Israel whom Jehovah God redeemed, and anyone reading His words should pause and meditate upon this idea.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph continued to exalt Jehovah God. He spoke of Jehovah God's powerful arm of redemption for His “people”, and this included the offspring of “Jacob and Joseph”. Everyone who reads these words should pause and meditate upon them, and when they do, they will understand how compassionate God is. God loves people, and the idea of “redemption” is the theme of the Bible. From the time Adam and Eve sinned in Genesis chapter three unto the end of the age, God has been saving people from their sins. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and redeem us so we may live with Him forever.

Next time Asaph says, the waters saw you, O God, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
