In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph said, “You are the God that does wonders: you have declared your strength among the people. You have with your arm redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse sixteen of Psalms Asaph said, “the waters saw you, O God” where we read,
The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.
The verse begins, “The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you;” Asaph began with the words, “the waters saw you” or “the waters of the seas like the Red Sea observed, noticed and beheld you, Jehovah God”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “the waters saw you” or “the waters of the seas like the Red Sea observed, noticed and beheld you, Jehovah God”. Asaph declared twice how the “waters of the seas” observed Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.” Asaph continued with the words, “they were afraid” or “they, the waters of the seas, were twisted, whirling, dancing, writing, trembling and travailing”: “the depths” which means “the abyss, deep subterranean and primeval ocean” “also were troubled” or “even so and indeed trembled, quaked, quivered, agitated, enraged and were disquieted”. Asaph said the waters of the seas were whirling, trembling and travailing, and the deep parts of the sea were disquieted, quaking and quivering.
When we consider the words in this verse, we notice how the “waters of the sea” were troubled when they saw God. They trembled and travailed, and the deep parts of the sea were agitated and quivering. In other words, the waters of the world tremble at the power of Almighty God. God created the waters in the world, and whether they are rivers, seas or oceans, none are more powerful than He. God manifests this much power and yet He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and demonstrate His power over the “waters” of the world anytime He deems it necessary to do so.
Next time Asaph says, “the clouds poured out water”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
