In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph said Jehovah God, “established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse six of Psalms Asaph shared these things so, “the generation to come might know them” where we read,
That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born;
who should arise and declare them to their children:
The verse begins, “That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born;” Asaph began with the words, “that the generation to come” or “so the subsequent, latter and hinder-most period, age and class of people in the future” “might know them” which means “could perceive, learn about and discern the witness and law of Jehovah God”, “even the children” or “also and indeed the offspring and progeny of Jacob and Israel” “which should be born” which means “who will be birthed, engendered and brought forth”. Asaph said the reason the people of Jacob and Israel were to share the witness and law of Jehovah God was so future generations would learn and share them with their offspring.
The verse goes on to say, “who should arise and declare them to their children:” Asaph continued with the words, “who should arise” or “and those people were to stand up, be established, endured, fixed and validated” “and declare them” which means “and recount, relate reckon and rehearse the witness and law of Jehovah God” “to their children” or “toward their, Jacob and Israel's, offspring and prodigy”. Asaph declared it to be the responsibility of each generation to pass along the witness and “law” of Jehovah God to their offspring.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how each generation is to share with the next concerning the “testimony and law” of Jehovah God. Everyone is to know how God intervened in the lives of the people of “Jacob and Israel”, and the reason God chose them was to extend to the world His salvation and redemption for mankind. People sinned from the beginning, (See Genesis 3), and from that point, God has purposed to send a Messiah, His Son Jesus, to die on the cross for the sins of the entire world. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to share from generation to generation the glorious salvation provided through God's Son Jesus.
Next time Asaph shares these things so, “they might set their hope in God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
